The 3 Step Landscape Design Process

The design process begins with an initial meeting with you at your residence. Kieser Design will lead you through a thorough interview process to gain valuable input regarding your unique wants and needs. A design will then be created for you with your input concerning style, plant likes and dislikes, and color schemes in mind. In this way, you can be involved in shaping your landscape design.

After the initial meeting is completed, digital photographs and careful measurements will be taken of your site. Environmental conditions such as sun and shade, soil type, low lying wet areas or other elements unique to your site will be taken into consideration.

After completing the design, Kieser Design will present you with a landscape plan that is typically 1/8" = 1' scale. As we look over the design together, you will be shown pictures of all the plants and will receive a thorough explanation of the landscape design. In addition to receiving two copies of the plan, you will also be given a complete plant list as well as instructions for bed preparation, planting, and plant care.

Option 1: Do-It-Yourself
If you choose, you may proceed to install the landscape yourself using the design, plant list, and instructions to guide you. If any questions arise during the installation, Kieser Design will be available to answer them for you.

Option 2: Landscaper Recommendation
If you prefer to have a landscape company install all or part of the design for you, Kieser Design can recommend a landscape company for your project. We will take your plan to the landscaper, explain the scope of your project, and give them your contact information.

Option 3: Project Oversite
If you want a landscape company to install all or part of the design for you, and you want Kieser Design to oversee the project from beginning to end, we will provide that service for an additional fee. This arrangement would include the following:

  • We meet with you to discuss the exact scope of your installation project.
  • We take your landscape plan and present it to two or three landscape companies that we recommend, explaining the scope of the project to each one.
  • We receive the quotes from the landscapers and present them to you along with our professional recommendation.
  • We meet the chosen landscaper at your house to discuss the start of the project and ensure that all elements of the design are understood.
  • We check on the project every day, answering questions and overseeing as needed to ensure proper installation.
  • We meet with you and the landscaper on-site after the project has been completed to do a final walk through, providing you with an opportunity to ask any final questions, and check to see that the project has been done to your satisfaction.
